<h2>Active vs Passive&nbsp;</h2><h3>1️⃣ Active sentence</h3><p><strong>The subject does the action</strong></p><p><strong>Form:</strong><br><strong>Subject + verb + object</strong></p><p><strong>Example:</strong></p><ul><li>Somebody cleaned the classroom.</li><li>The teacher explains the lesson.</li></ul><p><i>***We know who does the action.</i></p><hr><h3>2️⃣ Passive sentence</h3><p><strong>The action is more important than who does it</strong></p><p><strong>Form (A1):</strong><br><strong>Object + am / is / are + past participle</strong></p><p><strong>Example:</strong></p><ul><li>The classroom was cleaned.</li><li>The lesson is explained.</li></ul><p><i>***We don’t say who did it.</i></p><hr><h3>3️⃣ Active → Passive (easy idea)</h3><p>Active:</p><ul><li>Somebody cleaned the classroom.</li></ul><p>Passive:</p><ul><li>The classroom was cleaned.</li></ul><p>🔹 The <strong>object</strong> becomes the <strong>subject</strong><br>🔹 The verb changes to <strong>was/is + cleaned</strong></p><hr><h3>4️⃣ When do we use the passive? (A1 rules)</h3><p>We use the passive when:</p><p>✔️ We <strong>don’t know</strong> who did it<br>✔️ It is <strong>not important</strong> who did it<br>✔️ We want to talk about the <strong>thing</strong>, not the person</p><p><strong>Examples:</strong></p><ul><li>My bike was stolen. (Who? We don’t know.)</li><li>The test was finished at 10 a.m.</li><li>The classroom is cleaned every day.</li></ul><hr><h3>5️⃣ Passive + <strong>by</strong>&nbsp;</h3><p>Use <strong>by</strong> if you want to say <strong>who did the action</strong></p><p><strong>Examples:</strong></p><ul><li>The picture was painted <strong>by Picasso</strong>.</li><li>The book was written <strong>by the teacher</strong>.</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p><hr><h3>6️⃣ One-line teen summary 😄</h3><p><strong>Active:</strong> Who does it is important<br><strong>Passive:</strong> What happens is important</p><hr><p>&nbsp;</p>
